The choice of deprivation in measuring poorer health in Northamptonshire.

One of the most important determinants of ill health is deprivation, but it is not immediately clear the deprivation index that should be used when comparing health statistics, particularly in rural areas. The purpose of this paper was to discover the most suitable deprivation index to measure the relation between ill health and deprivation in Northamptonshire. Northamptonshire is a mixed urban and rural county in England, with 57 out of 148 wards being classified as rural. It is also a relatively wealthy with better than average health statistics for the country.
